Uncertainty flashed in Anna’s eyes before fear darkened them. Her lower lip trembled until she bit down to keep it still. As tempted as he was to let her linger on the edge of the unknown, Blake didn’t want to. She needed to hear this and it was better if he said it before she got too pissed off to listen.

Combing his fingers through her hair, he offered what he hoped was a reassuring smile then cleared his throat. A tiny line appeared between Anna’s eyebrows and Blake smoothed it away with a gentle finger. Emotions churned in his gut. How would she take what he was about to say? Would she believe him?

He hoped she did.

Taking a deep breath and hoping for the best, Blake said, “I’ve wanted you for so long, Anna. And that didn’t change after Monday night. If anything, I want you more because of it.”

Time stood still as she gaped at him in shock. She opened her mouth to speak but he rushed to finish before she could say anything.

“But I don’t want one more night, a week, or a month with you. I’ve wanted you for too long to settle for a short-term relationship. I want…longer than that with you.”

Her features twisted into a look of disbelief. “Yeah, right,” she muttered. “Then you’ll get bored and move onto the next bimbo in line. No thanks.”

Blake blocked her attempt to escape, watching her through narrowed eyes. “No, I won’t. I’ve waited ten years for you, ten years to make my move. If you think I’m going to let you go just like that-” he snapped his fingers “-then you’re wrong. I don’t have any plans to let you go. I’m not going to sit back and watch another Taylor string you along only to break your heart.”

“And you won’t?”

Blake relaxed then reached up to frame her face. “I promise not to.”

Stroking his thumbs over her cheeks, he stared at her, wishing he had all the right words to assure her he wouldn’t be so foolish with something so precious. But he knew it was something he was going to have to prove, over and over if need be, if she were to believe him.

“Give me a chance to show you I won’t,” he coaxed and leaned in until he could feel her breath caressing his lips. “I promise you won’t be disappointed.”

Anna grinned as Blake loaded the last of her things from her apartment into the bed of his pickup truck. Her heart fluttered wildly in her chest as he shoved the tailgate shut and strode toward her, the wicked grin on his face setting her skin on fire. She gasped as he swept her into his arms then sighed when he took her mouth in a bruising kiss. His enthusiasm for her still amazed her and it hadn’t waned an inkling in the five months they’d been together. If anything, it’d grown in leaps and bounds as Blake time and again showed her how much she meant to him, what she made him feel, how he promised to do everything in his power not to shatter her heart.

And Anna had never been happier.

As Blake set her back on her feet, Anna looked around at the front of her apartment building. Contentment and urgency filled her heart, spilled into her soul. Today marked the day she said goodbye to her apartment and hello to a life in Blake’s home. It’d been four weeks coming and she couldn’t wait to wake up in their bed tomorrow morning with him right beside her.

“That’s everything,” Hope announced and dropped an envelope with Anna’s key into the rent drop box.

Anna smiled at her best friend. “Thanks, Hope.”

Hope rolled her eyes and snagged her keys from Blake. “Anytime, hon. Call me tomorrow. Maybe I can come over and bother you some.”

With a kiss on their cheeks and a wave, she was gone. Anna looked up at Blake, her heart melting at the tenderness in his eyes. He cupped her chin with strong fingers and swept a gentle kiss over her mouth that left her anxious for more.

“Blake,” she whispered and wrapped her arms around his waist.

Blake chuckled. The sound vibrated through her, brushed over thousands of nerves and setting her body aflame for his touch. Anna clenched his shirt in her fists.

He kissed her again then said softly, “Let’s go home.”

Anna held his hand as he drove toward the ranch. Blake squeezed her fingers. Anna smiled then giggled as she thought about how it’d all come to this, her driving away to a happily ever after with him. He looked at her questioningly and she shook her head.

“Just thinking about how we got here.”

“I can’t believe it started with finding you on a sofa!”

Blake laughed softly. “Hm. Let’s see what else you can find on a sofa, shall we?”

Promise sparkled wickedly in his dark eyes and Anna suddenly couldn’t wait to get home to see what he had in mind.

    1. Thanks, Laurel! The progression for Anna was interesting to write and I’m pleased the end turned out the way it did. Yay! Thanks for coming by last week and this week!

    1. :) Isn’t that always the way, Lindsay? *sigh* For now, Blake and Anna’s story is done. For now. ;) Who knows though. Maybe I’ll resurrect them later on to continue their story! Thanks for stopping by this week and last!

    1. Thanks, Sherry! Hmm… I guess we’ll have to see, won’t we? But that’ll be for a much later time. For now, we’ll write “The End” for Blake and Anna and leave them to discover what else is on the…sofa ;)
